Three Years on… embracing the simple life.
May 27, 2023Future Proofing Your Land – Trees
July 31, 2023There’s something rather special about finding a good book on a topic you’re interested in. I have always loved books, they open new worlds to us, give us glimpses into other people lives, thoughts and knowledge. They expand our world beyond our horizons, inspire us and help us.
For these reasons I started creating our Fodder Farm Handbooks. Each one designed as an easy to read, handy resource for different topics. So far Fodder and Forage – Creating Diverse Animal Feed Systems in New Zealand (our first handbook) has had some really good feed back and reviews. Including great reviews in NZ Lifestyle Block mag and Organic NZ mag. It is heartening to get this feed back for a project which so much time has been spent on.
Our next Fodder Farm Handbook to be released is…
EDIBLE PERENNIALS
It’s a fascinating collection of perennial plants which can be grown as vegetables.
‘Today many of these perennial edibles are unknown and apart from asparagus and rhubarb will not be found at the green grocers or supermarket. It may take some adjustments for us to get used to cooking and eating many of them, but with over 150 plants in this book, you may be surprised how many are already in your garden.’
Paperback 138 pages
Three great reasons for growing perennials in your food garden are they are usually easy care, only have to be planted once for years of food production and help enhance soil life!
But we have also been busy producing another book commissioned by Upstart Press which is due for release August 10th 2023. This book is the story of a year on our land but it also contains homegrown low carb recipes, upcycled projects for home and garden and of course inspiration and information for any one wishing to live a simpler more natural life whether you are urban or rural.
LIFE ON FODDER FARM
‘Life on Fodder Farm is our journey through a year living with the land. Each season brings changes to our lives, a fresh focus of what needs to be done on our small off-grid homestead. The remote rugged landscape connects us to nature and leads us down the natural farming pathway. Living the natural lifestyle also means that food, homecare and body care are elements that we produce at home. You will find advice on growing and using your own crops, keeping chickens and cattle, upcycling, DIY projects and more. Life on Fodder Farm is both a source of inspiration and a practical guide to simple living and reducing our impact on the land.’
All of these books are available on our shop but Life on Fodder Farm will also be in all good book stores from August 10th, if its not in one near you request it in!
